Dehradun, 23 August (Kiran News). In Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, a flood occurred in Tunri Gadere at Tharali around 12:48 AM due to heavy rainfall. As a result, debris entered the Tharali market, Kotdeep Tehsil Tharali premises, and several houses. Many vehicles were also buried under the debris. It is reported that a girl from Sagwara village was trapped under the debris, while a person from Tharali market has been reported missing. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed grief over the incident and has directed that relief and rescue operations be carried out on a war footing.
The flood in Tunri Gadere at Tharali Tehsil happened after heavy rainfall when people were sleeping deeply. Reports suggest that this sudden flood has caused major damage to Tharali Tehsil. Some shops in Chepro Market have been damaged by debris, and one person is missing. The Tharali-Gwaldam motor road at Mingdera is closed.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed sorrow over the cloudburst incident late at night in Tharali area of Chamoli district. He said that the district administration, SDRF, and police have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations. He is in contact with the local administration and is personally monitoring the situation closely.
According to information from the District Emergency Operations Centre, tehsil administration, police department, civil police, DDRF, and fire service are present at the incident site for search, rescue, and relief operations. Teams from NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and SSB have also left for the incident site.
After the incident, all schools in the three development blocks of Tharali, Dewal, and Narayanbagad have been declared closed today.
