
Lucknow, May 18: The Yogi government has implemented a zero-tolerance policy against crime in Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the neutralization of 289 notorious criminals over the past nine years. During this period, the police conducted a total of 17,043 encounters, leading to the arrest of 34,253 criminals.
In these encounters, 11,834 criminals sustained injuries. Tragically, 18 police officers lost their lives, while 1,852 were injured in the line of duty.
The highest number of encounters occurred in the Meerut zone, where police conducted 4,813 operations, apprehending 8,921 criminals and injuring 3,513. Notably, 97 infamous criminals were killed on the spot. During these encounters, 477 police personnel were injured, and two officers were martyred while fulfilling their duties. The Meerut zone ranked first in the state for encounter operations.
Similarly, the Varanasi zone recorded 1,292 encounters, resulting in the arrest of 2,426 criminals, with 29 criminals neutralized during the operations. In this zone, 907 criminals and 104 police officers were injured. Varanasi ranks second in the state for encounter actions. The Agra zone follows in third place, with 2,494 encounters leading to the arrest of 5,845 criminals. During these operations, 968 criminals were injured, and 24 were killed. Additionally, 62 police officers were injured in the encounters.
Looking at the encounter statistics, the Bareilly zone reported 2,222 encounters with 21 notorious criminals neutralized, while the Lucknow zone had 971 encounters resulting in 20 criminals killed. In the Ghaziabad commissionerate, 789 encounters led to 18 criminals being neutralized, the highest among all commissionerates. The Kanpur zone recorded 791 encounters with 12 criminals killed, while the Lucknow commissionerate had 147 encounters with 12 criminals neutralized. In the Prayagraj zone, 643 encounters resulted in 11 criminals being killed. Other zones also reported various numbers of encounters and neutralizations.
Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, the Uttar Pradesh police have effectively implemented the zero-tolerance policy over the past nine years. This initiative has instilled fear in criminals and a sense of security among the public. Consequently, the state’s law and order situation has received national acclaim.
