Gorakhpur, May 5: The Uttar Pradesh government’s Basic Education Minister (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh announced that the state has fulfilled its promise by raising the honorarium for Shiksha Mitras to ₹18,000 per month. He emphasized that this increase is a recognition of the respect and contributions of Shiksha Mitras, who play a crucial role in making the state an ‘excellent state.’
Addressing the state-level ‘Shiksha Mitra Samman Samaroh’ in Gorakhpur, Minister Singh noted that the honorarium was previously increased from ₹3,500 to ₹10,000 in 2017, and is now set at ₹18,000 per month. This new honorarium will be effective from April 1, 2026, with approximately ₹230.11 crore already allocated to districts to ensure timely payments.
The minister stated that this event is not merely a formal gathering but a symbol of the state government’s gratitude towards the sacrifices, dedication, and service of Shiksha Mitras. He acknowledged their significant role in spreading knowledge across villages and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to honoring them.
Sandeep Singh also highlighted extensive reforms in the Basic Education Department, mentioning that under ‘Operation Kayakalp,’ essential facilities have been ensured in schools based on 19 criteria. This includes the provision of drinking water, toilets, furniture, blackboards, and other necessary arrangements, which are nearly complete.
To enhance the quality of education, the NCERT curriculum has been implemented in government schools, reducing the educational gap between public and private institutions. Digital education initiatives have led to the establishment of smart classes in 31,878 schools, ICT labs in 14,988 schools, and digital libraries in 1,129 schools. Additionally, over 261,000 tablets have been distributed to teachers.
The minister also discussed advancements in girls’ education, stating that Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas have been expanded to include grades 6 to 12, allowing for continuous education for female students. Furthermore, a Direct Benefit Transfer of ₹1,200 is being sent directly to students’ accounts for uniforms, shoes, socks, bags, and stationery.
Referring to the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan,’ he mentioned that a special enrollment campaign from April 1 to 15, 2026, registered over 2 million new students, showcasing the success of the government’s education policy. Minister Sandeep Singh urged Shiksha Mitras to continue fulfilling their responsibilities with dedication, as they are the architects of the future generation and the foundation of the state’s development.
