Users Can Now Check Credit Scores on BHIM UPI App Following NPCI and TransUnion CIBIL Partnership

New Delhi, April 20: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced on Monday that its subsidiary, BHIM Services, has entered into a partnership with TransUnion CIBIL. As a result, users can now check their credit scores directly on the BHIM app.

With this integration, users can view their CIBIL scores and credit reports without leaving the platform, allowing for easy monitoring of their credit status.

NPCI stated that access to credit data will be governed by a consent-based model, meaning information will only be retrieved after explicit user approval.

This feature is available on BHIM app version 4.0.19 and above.

The addition of credit score information aims to enhance the app’s utility beyond everyday payments, promoting broader financial awareness.

Bhavesh Jain, Managing Director and CEO of TransUnion CIBIL, remarked, “As India shifts from a transaction-based approach to a more planned strategy for credit, this marks a significant step in our journey toward consumer awareness.”

Lalita Nataraj, Managing Director and CEO of NPCI BHIM Services Limited, stated that this collaboration advances the app’s core principles of simplicity and user control in the credit sector.

Earlier in March, NPCI BHIM Services Limited introduced biometric authentication for UPI payments on the app, allowing users to approve transactions up to ₹5,000 using fingerprint or facial recognition.

Developed by NPCI, the indigenous UPI payment app BHIM serves users in urban and rural areas in over 15 Indian languages. The app features expense splitting, family mode, and expense analysis capabilities.

Recently, India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) celebrated its 10th anniversary, achieving a 49% share in global real-time transactions.
