US Trade Representative Jamison Greer Visits India for Meaningful Trade Discussions

New Delhi, June 23: US Trade Representative Jamison Greer arrived in India on Monday. Central Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal welcomed Greer and US Ambassador Sergio Gore, expressing hopes for meaningful discussions on a bilateral trade agreement.

Minister Goyal shared a post on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “We welcome US Trade Representative Jamison Greer and the delegation led by Ambassador Gore to the Ministry of Commerce. We anticipate significant conversations regarding the bilateral trade agreement in the upcoming discussions.”

Ambassador Gore also expressed his satisfaction in a post, stating that it was great to meet with Minister Goyal and Greer in New Delhi. He noted that discussions are ongoing to finalize a trade deal between the US and India.

Earlier, Gore welcomed Greer to India, emphasizing the advancement of their ambitious trade agenda. He highlighted that they are rapidly moving towards finalizing a strong bilateral trade agreement, which will open new economic opportunities for both nations and strengthen the US-India economic partnership.

On the same day, Gore mentioned that Greer would engage in several rounds of meetings with Minister Goyal. These meetings aim to advance the trade agreement ahead of a crucial tariff deadline next month.

Greer’s discussions with Goyal come at a time when both countries are striving to finalize the framework for the first phase of the proposed bilateral trade agreement before the important tariff deadline next month.

This ministerial-level meeting is part of ongoing negotiations for an interim trade agreement between India and the US. It is believed that this interim agreement will pave the way for a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement in the future.
