New Delhi: Fast bowler Umar Malik has been excluded from the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy preparation camp, which is scheduled to be held in Puducherry. Malik, who has represented India in 10 One Day Internationals and 8 T20 matches, was part of the team during the first half of the Ranji Trophy season but played only one match against Rajasthan in Srinagar without taking any wickets.
Earlier, Umar Malik was also left out of the Vijay Hazare Trophy team despite taking six wickets in five matches during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Alongside him, Kamran Iqbal, the opening batsman who scored a memorable century in Jammu and Kashmir’s historic Ranji Trophy win against Delhi at Arun Jaitley Stadium, has also been dropped from the squad.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) has included Dikshant Kundal and Kavalpreet Singh in the team. Umar Nazir and Shubham Pundir have also been recalled to the squad.
Currently, Jammu and Kashmir are placed second in Elite Group D with 20 points from five matches, behind table-toppers Mumbai. The team will begin their Ranji Trophy Phase 2 campaign against Puducherry on January 22 at the Sichey Stadium. Head coach Ajay Sharma will join the team on January 17 ahead of the match.
Following this, Jammu and Kashmir will face Himachal Pradesh from January 29 to February 1. The knockout matches are scheduled between February 6 and 28.
Players and support staff will leave their respective locations on January 16 under the arrangements made by JKCA, traveling directly to Chennai. From there, the team will proceed to Puducherry for the camp and matches.
