Abu Dhabi, August 7: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) strongly condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Najran region on Friday. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that such attacks are a blatant violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and pose a threat to its security and stability.
According to a report by Xinhua News Agency, the ministry reiterated that the UAE stands in full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supports all measures taken to maintain its security and stability.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced on the social media platform X that the Yemeni armed forces would soon issue a statement declaring a “special military operation.”
The Houthi group claimed on Wednesday that it targeted a Saudi oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden with a ballistic missile. Just hours earlier, they also claimed a separate missile attack on another Saudi tanker in the northern Red Sea.
According to Saree, the tanker named “Daisy” was hit by a ballistic missile, forcing it to return. He stated that this attack was part of a declared maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, which the Houthi group is implementing under its policy of “blockade in response to blockade.”
Saree also reported that another tanker named “Wafa” was targeted by ballistic missiles near Yanbu, a major Saudi port city on the Red Sea.
On Tuesday, the Houthi group took responsibility for a drone attack on Najran Airport in southwestern Saudi Arabia, claiming it was in response to alleged Saudi drone incursions into Yemeni airspace.
These developments come amid escalating tensions between the Houthi group and Saudi Arabia. On July 20, the Houthi group announced a maritime blockade on vessels linked to Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea, accusing Saudi Arabia of blockading Houthi-controlled areas.
Since then, the Houthi group has claimed multiple missile and drone attacks on Saudi-linked vessels and energy facilities in the Red Sea. Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition has resumed airstrikes on key Houthi military positions in Yemen.
