Washington, April 4: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has revoked the green cards of two foreign nationals due to alleged ties to Iran. American authorities have detained both individuals and initiated deportation proceedings.
Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were arrested by federal agencies after their permanent residency status was terminated. They are currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Rubio stated on the social media platform X, “Until recently, Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter were living a lavish life in the U.S. as green card holders. This week, I terminated their legal status, and now they are in ICE custody, where deportation proceedings are underway.”
According to the U.S. State Department, Soleimani Afshar is accused of openly supporting Iran’s “dictatorial and terrorist” government. The department noted that she promoted Iranian propaganda through her social media posts, supported attacks on U.S. troops and bases in the Middle East, and referred to the U.S. as the “Great Satan.”
This case is also linked to family ties with Qasem Soleimani, a former Iranian military commander who was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Iraq in 2020.
The State Department also reported that Soleimani Afshar’s husband has been banned from entering the U.S.
Earlier this month, the legal status of Fatemeh Ardeshir-Larijani and her husband, Seyyed Kalantar Motamedi, was also revoked. Both are no longer in the U.S., and their future entry has been prohibited.
Rubio clarified that the U.S. administration will not allow foreign nationals who support anti-American or terrorist regimes to remain in the country.
The State Department expressed gratitude to the Department of Homeland Security and ICE for their cooperation in this action.
