Ahmedabad, August 11: The dismissal of charges against Gautam Adani by a U.S. court has effectively closed the case, removing legal obstacles to his business activities worldwide. This information was shared by legal experts on Tuesday.
Ryan Karanjawala, Managing Partner and Senior Advocate at Karanjawala & Company, stated that the legal proceedings against Gautam Adani are completely over and cannot be reopened based on the same facts.
He remarked, “The outcome of this case is that it is entirely closed for Gautam Adani. It cannot be restarted against him, and now he is free to conduct business in any country, including the U.S., without any interruptions. There are no open cases against him.”
Karanjawala added, “A few weeks ago, I mentioned in an interview that I believed the Department of Justice would allow the case against Gautam Adani to be withdrawn, and the judge would grant permission. Ultimately, that is what happened; the judge approved it. The case against Gautam Adani has been withdrawn and is now closed, and based on these facts, it cannot be reopened.”
Senior Advocate and President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Vikas Singh, noted that a crucial aspect of the court’s order is that the government should have consulted with investigative agencies or the prosecution wing before requesting the case’s dismissal.
He stated, “I believe this order is very significant and, in my view, a game-changer, as the Department of Justice realized that this case should never have been initiated in the first place.”
Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa highlighted the importance of this order for a globally operating company.
Market analyst Arun Kejriwal commented that the case had minimal impact on the group’s operations in India, as infrastructure projects and business expansion continued even during the legal proceedings in the U.S.
Kejriwal concluded, “I believe this is a major victory for Gautam Adani.” He further noted that the absence of any judicial evidence against the businessman implies that he has received a clean chit in the eyes of market participants.
