New Delhi, August 11: Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, has welcomed the U.S. court’s decision to dismiss all criminal charges against him, his brother Sagar Adani, and associate Vineet Jain. He expressed this sentiment with “humility and deep respect for the judicial process.” Adani emphasized that his faith in truth, fairness, and the rule of law has remained unwavering throughout this challenging period.
The ruling came from Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, who permanently dismissed all criminal charges related to securities fraud and wire fraud against the Adani Group.
In a response on the social media platform X, Gautam Adani stated, “We welcome this decision with humility and deep respect for the judicial process. Our faith in truth, fairness, and the rule of law has remained steadfast during this challenging time.”
He expressed gratitude to all those who maintained their trust in him and the judicial system throughout the case.
Adani further stated, “I sincerely thank everyone who has kept their faith in us, the judicial system, and India’s capacity to deliver justice.”
Additionally, the court finalized a settlement between the Adani Group and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), under which the Adani side will pay $18 million to the U.S. government, resolving the civil securities fraud case.
Gautam Adani affirmed that this ruling would not alter their priorities, and the group will continue to focus on contributing to the country’s development.
He wrote, “We will continue to do what is most important: building for our country, creating value that endures beyond us, and serving a greater purpose. This is our commitment.”
Notably, last month, the U.S. Department of Justice stated in a court filing that investors involved in the case did not suffer any financial losses. The department argued that the absence of investor losses weakens the prosecution’s case and bolsters the decision to dismiss the criminal charges.
In detailed court documents filed in the federal court in New York, the U.S. Department of Justice noted that one of the major weaknesses of the case is that no investor incurred any economic loss.
The court filing stated, “No investor who invested in the securities involved in this case has lost a single dollar.”
It was also mentioned that out of the four notes involved in the case, two have been fully paid, while payments for the remaining two are being made regularly, with no signs of changes in the future.
Experts believe that this ruling from the U.S. court provides significant legal relief for the Adani Group, enhancing its global business image and investor confidence, especially at a time when the group is advancing major investment programs in energy, ports, airports, infrastructure, and green energy sectors.
