Beijing, May 31: U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated on Saturday that the new definition of U.S.-China relations is “real, substantive, and meaningful.” He emphasized that the effective implementation of the “U.S.-China constructive strategic stability relationship,” agreed upon by the leaders of both nations at the Beijing summit, is vital for peace in the Asia-Pacific region and globally.
During the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue, Hegseth responded to a question from Zhao Weiping, a member of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s expert delegation and a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences. He noted that he participated in discussions on this topic. According to him, both leaders have clearly outlined the future direction and expectations of this relationship.
He remarked that the U.S. and China respect each other and acknowledge each other’s capabilities and strengths. He believes that this foundation can foster stable and constructive relations between the two countries.
It is noteworthy that the 23rd Shangri-La Dialogue commenced on Friday evening in Singapore, with over 550 representatives from more than 40 countries and regions in attendance.
