Patna, March 22: In a significant operation, police and the Narcotics Cell in Samastipur district, Bihar, have dismantled a drug trafficking network. Two individuals were arrested with heroin valued at ₹6 lakh.
According to a press release from the Superintendent of Police’s office, a special intelligence tip-off was received on the morning of March 21. It indicated that members of a drug gang would arrive at Shahpur Patori Railway Station with a shipment of heroin. Acting swiftly on this information, local police officials formed a special team, including the Block Development Officer (BDO). The team set up a trap and cordoned off the area around the station.
During the operation, two individuals—a man and a woman—were apprehended under suspicious circumstances outside the station. They were identified as Rahul Kumar (26) from Vaishali and Shanti Devi from Assam. A search revealed heroin concealed within four boxes of sago.
Additionally, the police seized two mobile phones, cash, railway tickets, and identification documents from their possession. Initial inquiries revealed that the suspects were involved in trafficking drugs from northeastern states into Bihar.
Authorities suspect the involvement of a larger interstate network and are working to identify other gang members and their criminal connections. A case has been registered at Patori Police Station under the provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
Earlier, on March 17, a joint team from the Narcotics Control Bureau and Patna Police was attacked by a group of alleged drug traffickers and local residents in the Mandiri Kath Bridge area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Buddha Colony Police Station in Patna. The team had gone there to conduct a raid against illegal drugs. The crowd attempted to free the detained suspects, prompting police personnel to fire several rounds into the air to regain control of the situation.
