Two Arrested in West Bengal for the Murder of Anti-India Leader Sharif Usman Hadi

Kolkata, March 9: The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has announced the arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals on Sunday. They are accused of murdering Sharif Usman Hadi, an alleged anti-India leader and spokesperson for the Inquilab Forum, last December.

According to police reports, the suspects entered India illegally and were hiding in the border areas of West Bengal, planning to return to Bangladesh at the first opportunity.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul, also known as Faisal Karim Masood (37), and Alamgir Hussain (34). They were apprehended in the India-Bangladesh border region of the Bongaon sub-district in North 24 Parganas. Rahul hails from Patuakhali, Bangladesh, while Alamgir is from Dhaka.

Police received credible intelligence indicating that the two Bangladeshi nationals were involved in serious crimes such as extortion and murder back in their home country. They had fled to India and were seeking refuge in the Bongaon area, waiting for a chance to return to Bangladesh.

Acting on this information, the STF conducted a raid on the night of March 7-8, leading to the capture of both suspects.

Initial investigations revealed that the duo was responsible for the murder of Bangladeshi political activist Sharif Usman Hadi and had fled the scene afterward. Further inquiries indicated that they illegally entered Indian territory via the Meghalaya border and traveled through various regions before reaching West Bengal, where they intended to return to Bangladesh.

A case has been registered in this matter, and both suspects were presented in court on Sunday, where they were remanded to police custody.

Authorities have stated that a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine if any local network facilitated the suspects’ entry and stay in India.
