London, May 19: Tushar Kumar, a 23-year-old counselor of Indian origin from Haryana, has made history by becoming the youngest Indian-origin mayor in the United Kingdom. He has been appointed as the mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood.
Tushar Kumar was officially named mayor during a council ceremony held on May 13 at Fairway Hall in Borehamwood. The event was attended by numerous counselors, community leaders, representatives from local organizations, residents, family members, and friends.
Following the ceremony, Tushar expressed his gratitude on the social media platform X, stating, “Becoming the mayor of Elstree and Borehamwood is a tremendous honor for me. It feels incredible to be the youngest Indian-origin mayor in UK history at just 23 years old. This journey from studying political science at King’s College London to serving my beloved town feels like a dream.”
In his speech, Tushar shared that he was first elected as a counselor at the age of 20 while studying political science at King’s College London.
According to the London Daily, Tushar emphasized that becoming mayor at such a young age holds special significance for him. He hopes this achievement will inspire more young people to engage in local democracy, community service, and civic activities.
Tushar also thanked former mayor Counselor Dan Ozaro for his support and guidance during his tenure as deputy mayor. He congratulated Counselor Linda Smith on her appointment as the new deputy mayor and expressed excitement about working together to serve the community.
He expressed his appreciation for his family and friends who have supported him throughout his political journey.
Looking ahead, Tushar stated his intention to be a mayor who remains accessible to the people and stays connected with the residents of Elstree and Borehamwood, as well as local organizations.
He remarked, “Serving the town I love is the greatest honor of my life.”
