Trump Urges Australia to Shelter Iranian Womens Soccer Team Amid Death Threats

Washington, March 10: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has called on the Australian government to grant asylum to the Iranian women’s national soccer team, citing a humanitarian crisis. Trump warned that if the team is sent back to Iran, they could face execution. He urged the Australian Prime Minister to provide refuge, stating that the U.S. is prepared to accept them if Australia does not.

This appeal comes as the Iranian women’s soccer team is in Australia to participate in the Asian Cup. Recently, a video surfaced showing several players refusing to sing the Iranian national anthem. The team members fear torture or death if they return to Iran.

In his message, Trump stated, “Australia is making a terrible humanitarian mistake by sending the Iranian women’s national soccer team back to Iran, where they could be killed. Don’t do it, Prime Minister; grant them asylum. If you don’t, America will take them. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and the Players Union, have also urged the Australian government to ensure the team’s safety. A petition has circulated, calling for the team to be allowed to remain in Australia.

Iran’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi reposted Trump’s message, thanking him and urging for asylum for the team, highlighting their refusal to return as a sign of danger.

Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. Reports indicate that five team members have sought asylum from Queensland police. Protesters surrounded the team’s bus, chanting “Save Our Girls,” and players were seen signaling for help.

Trump’s statement has drawn international attention. The U.S. has previously sheltered refugees fleeing Iran. The Australian government has yet to respond officially to the situation.
