Washington, March 31: U.S. President Donald Trump launched a sharp attack on key Western allies, France and the United Kingdom, on Tuesday. He accused these nations of failing to support Washington’s actions against Iran and warned that they should not expect American assistance in future crises.
Criticizing France, Trump stated that the country did not allow U.S. military aircraft carrying supplies to Israel to fly over its territory. He also targeted the UK for its stance on the Iran conflict.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “France did not allow those planes, laden with military equipment, to fly over its territory. France has not helped at all with Iran, which we have successfully dealt with. America will always remember this.”
These comments reflect a significant shift in Trump’s tone towards NATO allies. Washington is frustrated by the lack of expected support from European nations in its campaigns against Iran.
Trump also sent a strong message to countries whose energy supplies have been disrupted due to tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transport route.
He suggested that those countries facing jet fuel shortages due to the Strait should either buy from the U.S., which has ample supplies, or muster the courage to navigate to the Strait themselves.
Furthermore, he stated that countries unwilling to participate in military action should not expect U.S. support.
Trump remarked, “You all need to learn to fight for yourselves now. America will no longer be there to help you, just as you did not stand with us in our difficult times.”
The president claimed that U.S. actions have already significantly weakened Iran.
He added, “Iran is essentially completely devastated. The hard work is done. Now go and secure your own oil.”
These remarks indicate a growing rift between Washington and its European partners regarding military strategy and shared responsibilities in the Middle East.
France and the United Kingdom have traditionally been major allies of the U.S. in NATO and have maintained close coordination on security matters in the Gulf region.
