Trump Eases Stance on Iran: Military Action Paused for Two Weeks

Washington, April 8: President Donald Trump has announced a temporary halt to proposed military actions against Iran for two weeks. This decision is contingent upon Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz and continuing negotiations for a comprehensive peace agreement.

In a statement, Trump indicated that this decision was made following discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged restraint amid rising tensions.

He stated, “On the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to fully, immediately, and safely reopen the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to pause bombing and attacks on Iran for a two-week period.” He described this move as part of a “bilateral ceasefire.”

This announcement marks a significant pause amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region. Trump asserted that the United States has already achieved its military objectives. He noted, “We have accomplished all our military goals and have made substantial progress towards a long-term peace agreement with Iran. This will help establish peace in the Middle East.”

Trump revealed that the U.S. received a ten-point proposal from Iran, which he deemed a useful basis for negotiations.

He remarked, “Most of the old disputes between the U.S. and Iran have been agreed upon.” He believes that this two-week period will facilitate finalizing the agreement. Trump added, “During these two weeks, we can fully finalize the deal.”

He presented this development as a major success in efforts to bring stability to the region, stating, “Reaching a solution to this long-standing issue is a source of pride for us.”

This statement was posted on Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, at a time when he had given Iran an ultimatum to agree to the deal by 8 PM (EST). He warned that failure to comply could result in serious consequences for Iran.
