Washington, 18 November (Daily Kiran). US President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held a high-stakes meeting at the White House, during which several key announcements were made on defence cooperation, nuclear technology, investments and Israel–Saudi relations. Bin Salman, who arrived at the White House after seven years, received a ceremonial welcome with military honours, cannon salute and a jet flyover.

During the meeting, Trump indicated that the US is considering an agreement to transfer nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia. He said he could “see a deal happening,” though he did not specify a timeline. The two leaders also discussed the Abraham Accords. Trump said he received a “positive response” from Saudi Arabia, while Bin Salman reiterated that the Kingdom is willing to join the accords but wants a clear assurance on a two-state solution.
Trump announced that the US is moving towards approving the sale of F-35 stealth fighter jets to Saudi Arabia, saying the arrangement would be “similar to Israel.” If finalised, the deal would mark a major shift in the Middle East’s power balance.
Trump further said that the US and Saudi Arabia have finalised a defence cooperation agreement. He added that the administration is working on approving the sale of advanced AI chips — a major shift in US export policy that could strengthen technological cooperation between the two nations.
On investments, Trump said Saudi Arabia has agreed to invest USD 600 billion in the US economy. In a light-hearted remark, he added that he hoped it “goes up to one trillion dollars.” Bin Salman responded by saying Saudi Arabia “believes in America’s future” and will increase its investment to nearly USD 1 trillion.
When questioned by journalists about potential conflicts of interest involving the Trump family’s business, Trump said, “I have nothing to do with the family business. I am giving 100% energy to the presidency.”
On being asked about the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, Trump contradicted US intelligence assessments and said Bin Salman “knew nothing about it.” He added, “Whether someone liked that person or not, things happen.”
The meeting comes at a time when the Trump administration is seeking to elevate strategic, defence and economic ties with Saudi Arabia to a new level.
