Islamabad, August 14: The Joint Action Committee (JAC), leading the movement in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK), has alleged that two individuals were injured due to gunfire from Pakistani security forces in Rawalakot.
The JAC has called on international human rights organizations and the media to monitor the situation in POJK closely. A video shared by the JAC on social media shows several people in a room where one individual is receiving treatment. The injured person claimed that he was shot by security forces in POJK and expressed determination to continue the movement.
In their post on social media, the JAC stated, “Two people were injured due to gunfire from security forces in Rawalakot. The use of force against civilians is extremely concerning. We demand an immediate end to the violence and urge international human rights organizations and the media to keep a close watch on the ground situation.”
This statement from the JAC comes as thousands participated in protest rallies across various parts of POJK on Thursday. Demonstrators showed full support for the JAC and raised their voices against the alleged violence perpetrated by Pakistani forces over the past few months.
Numerous videos shared on various social media platforms depicted large crowds protesting against Pakistani security agencies in Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bhokhara, and Mandhol.
The JAC noted on social media, “Once again, the people of Rawalakot took to the streets in support of the Action Committee and raised their voices against the brutal violence of security forces.”
In Bhokhara, a significant number of women and children participated in a rally, waving flags and chanting slogans like “Inquilab Aayega” (Revolution will come). Similarly, thousands of women and children marched in the Mandhol area of Poonch district in POJK.
In Rawalakot, a large crowd also protested in support of the JAC, chanting against the alleged violence of security forces. Protesters shouted slogans such as “This is not hooliganism, this is not terrorism, this is not chaos” and “Raise your voice, we are one, we are one in Mirpur, we are one in Kotli, we are one in Rawalakot, we are one in Bagh, we are one in Muzaffarabad.”
The JAC shared videos of the protests, highlighting the significant participation of women and children. They are raising their voices alongside their families and communities in support of basic rights, justice, and public demands. Their involvement indicates that this movement has reached every segment of society.
Currently, POJK is witnessing the largest confrontation between the local population and the Pakistani administration in decades. Tensions remain high amid violent incidents, internet service suspensions, and allegations of police excesses. What began as protests against rising prices of electricity and essential goods has now escalated into demands for political reforms, greater accountability, and representative governance.
In recent weeks, various videos shared on social media platforms, including those from the JAC, have depicted the alleged harshness and actions of Pakistani forces in POJK.
On August 1, JAC member Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri claimed that over 50 people had died during the actions of Pakistani forces in POJK, with hundreds more injured.
