Agartala, August 18: The Information Technology Minister, Pranjit Singha Roy, announced on Monday that Tripura is rapidly advancing in the startup sector, earning recognition as a ‘Leader’ in the Startup India ranking, similar to other states.
Currently, Tripura boasts 80 active startups and eight incubators. According to data from Startup India, there has been a significant increase in women-led startups in the state in recent years.
Singha Roy made these remarks during the inauguration of a workshop titled “Building a Unicorn in Tripura,” held at Pragya Bhawan in Agartala. He emphasized that the workshop aims to inspire startup ideas among youth, transform new startups into large businesses, and position Tripura as a vital part of the national startup ecosystem.
The minister noted that Tripura launched its startup ecosystem plan and scheme in 2019. These initiatives are designed to support IT-based companies, enhance innovative skills, and create job opportunities within the state. The government has also taken several steps to strengthen the startup ecosystem.
He stated that the workshop is not only about discussing the current startup landscape in the state but also about creating opportunities for youth to establish companies that can generate employment, promote innovation, and enable Tripura’s entrepreneurs to compete in the global market.
The minister highlighted that startups should not be viewed merely as businesses but as a crucial force for strengthening the state’s economy and generating jobs.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged as one of the world’s largest startup ecosystems, and Tripura is striving to be an integral part of this journey.
Singha Roy mentioned that the ‘State Innovation Mission’ was launched in Agartala in February 2026, aimed at fostering an environment that brings together innovative ideas and technology, transforming them into successful businesses.
Other speakers at the event included the Chief Minister‘s Secretary, Kiran Gitte, and the Secretary of the IT Department, Prashant Kumar Goyal.
To provide financial and technical assistance to small startups in Tripura, the IT department has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with a private bank and other organizations. An official from the IT department stated that these agreements are expected to facilitate financial and technical support for emerging entrepreneurs, further strengthening the state’s startup ecosystem.
