Trinamool Congress Unveils 10-Point Election Manifesto for West Bengal Elections

Kolkata, March 20: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has released its 10-point election manifesto for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, scheduled to take place in two phases. The announcement was made on Friday.

The manifesto’s first promise focuses on the ‘Lakshmi Bhandar’ scheme for women. If re-elected, the party assures that women from the general category will receive ₹1,500 per month, while those from reserved categories will receive ₹1,700.

For the youth, the ‘Banglar Yuva Sathi’ scheme promises monthly assistance of ₹1,500 to individuals aged 21 to 40 who have passed their secondary exams, until they secure employment.

The TMC has also pledged to provide permanent housing for every family. Additionally, a proposal for a ₹30,000 crore agricultural budget includes special packages for farmers and landless agricultural families.

The manifesto proposes a geographical reorganization of the state, which includes the formation of seven new districts and the expansion of urban bodies to enhance civic amenities.

There is a commitment to continue and expand existing pension schemes for senior citizens. Furthermore, plans are in place to ensure piped drinking water reaches every household.

To establish the state as an economic hub in Eastern India, the manifesto promises the development of infrastructure, including ports, roads, and a modern World Trade Center.

The TMC also aims to improve healthcare services at the block and municipal levels and strengthen the infrastructure of government schools in the education sector.

Following the manifesto’s release, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the central government and the Election Commission of India (ECI). She accused the ruling BJP of attempting to impose indirect President’s rule in the state through the election commission.

Banerjee expressed concerns that many citizens might face the threat of losing their citizenship and being expelled from the country after the elections. She stated, “My worry is not for myself but for the protection of democratic rights. This is why I am fighting against the alleged authoritarian policies of the center and continuously writing to the election commission.”
