Tributes Pour in for Ustad Bismillah Khan on His Birth Anniversary

New Delhi, March 21: On the birth anniversary of the Shehnai maestro and Bharat Ratna awardee Ustad Bismillah Khan, central ministers and chief ministers from various states paid heartfelt tributes. They emphasized his unparalleled contribution to national unity.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed his respect on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “On the birth anniversary of the Shehnai magician Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan, I offer my humble homage.”

Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, also took to ‘X’, writing, “I pay my deepest respects on the birth anniversary of the unparalleled servant of music, the great Shehnai player, Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan! The Shehnai is incomplete without you, and its sweet melodies will forever keep your memories alive in our hearts.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared on ‘X’, “On the birth anniversary of the great practitioner of Shehnai, Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan, who gave Indian classical music a global identity, I offer my humble tribute. His contribution to strengthening national unity and cultural pride through music is unmatched. His art and dedication will always inspire us.”

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav wrote on ‘X’, “Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan was the living voice of Kashi and the cultural consciousness of our nation. He elevated the Shehnai, a folk instrument, to a global platform, giving a new identity to India’s rich musical heritage. I respectfully pay my homage to him on this anniversary.”

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also expressed her sentiments on ‘X’, stating, “On the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan, who brought global pride to Indian classical music, I offer my humble tribute. Through his Shehnai performances, he enriched Indian culture and our shared heritage. His dedication and simplicity are invaluable treasures for our music world.”

Ustad Bismillah Khan, the Shehnai maestro, enchanted the world with his melodies. His significant role in bringing the Shehnai to the global stage earned him the Bharat Ratna award. Born on March 21, 1916, in Dumraon, Bihar, he would often awaken Baba Vishwanath with his Shehnai until his last days.
