Tragic Road Accident in Karnataka Claims Lives of Driver and Cleaner

Bengaluru, March 21: A tragic road accident occurred early Saturday in the Kustagi area of Karnataka’s Koppal district, resulting in the immediate deaths of a truck driver and cleaner.

The incident took place around 4:30 AM on the National Quadrilateral Highway, just outside the city.

According to reports, a tire of a freight truck from a well-known private transport company suddenly burst, causing the vehicle to lose control. The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old driver Govindappa Tandi Hanumanthappa Anegundi and 35-year-old cleaner Huchappa Tandi Shivlingappa Bommanhal, both residents of Katgihalli village in Yelburga taluka.

The truck belonged to VRL Transport Company and was en route from Solapur in Maharashtra to Gangavati in Koppal district. As the vehicle approached the Ashok Leyland showroom near Kustagi on the national highway, the tire burst.

Following the tire explosion, the truck lost its balance and veered onto the divider, colliding violently with an oncoming tipper truck, which caused the truck to overturn. The impact was so severe that the diesel tank caught fire, igniting the asphalt on the road.

Fire brigade teams arrived promptly and worked diligently to extinguish the flames. According to Kustagi police, the accident was so catastrophic that both the driver and cleaner died at the scene. The intensity of the crash resulted in significant damage to their bodies.

Authorities have registered a case and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. A thorough investigation into the causes of the accident is underway.
