Rohtak, August 2: Muskaan (23), the wife of international kabaddi player Sheelu Balhara, has reportedly taken her own life at their residence in Rohtak, Haryana.
According to NDTV, Muskaan married Sheelu in December 2023. The couple welcomed their son, Hardik, last November.
Upon receiving the news, police officials arrived at the scene on Friday to initiate an investigation. A forensic team was also summoned to gather evidence.
Authorities stated that the exact reason behind the alleged suicide remains unclear, and further investigations are ongoing. Reports indicate that Muskaan shared a reel of a Punjabi song on social media just a day before the incident.
Police are examining all aspects of the case, including her recent activities and personal circumstances.
This incident has once again drawn attention to a series of similar cases that have emerged across the country in recent months. Just days earlier, a teacher in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, reportedly committed suicide.
The woman, named Srishti Kandari, faced mental and physical abuse from her husband and in-laws. She married Saurabh Ratudi, a government employee, last November. The couple resided in the Doonwala area, about 20 kilometers from Dehradun.
In a complaint filed with the police, Srishti’s mother alleged that her daughter was repeatedly subjected to harassment over dowry issues. Her husband and family often referred to her as “unlucky” and “humiliating.”
Before her death, Srishti recorded a video message that later surfaced online. In this emotional recording, she spoke about the hardships she endured in the six months following her marriage and claimed she could no longer tolerate the treatment she received.
Earlier this year, another case involved 33-year-old model and actress Twisha Sharma, who was found dead in her in-laws’ home in Bhopal just five months after her marriage on May 12. Her family alleged that her husband, lawyer Samarth Singh, and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, were harassing her for dowry. The accused have denied these allegations.
