Chhattisgarh Government Provides Financial Aid to Families of Kulgam Attack Victims

Raipur, August 2: The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Dev Sai, announced financial assistance of ₹20 lakh each for the families of two migrant workers from the state who were killed in a terrorist attack in Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister condemned the incident and assured the grieving families of the state government’s full support. The deceased workers have been identified as Deepak Ratri (24) and Bhupinder Kumar (28). Both were employed at a brick kiln in the village of Kelam, Kulgam. They were targeted by terrorists on July 31, 2026. Ratri died on the spot, while Kumar succumbed to his injuries the following day in the hospital.

In a message on his social media account, the Chief Minister described the brutal murder of the workers as deeply painful and heart-wrenching. He reiterated that the Chhattisgarh government stands firmly with the affected families.

Sai labeled the killings of the hardworking laborers as tragic and inhumane. He stated that each family of the deceased workers would receive ₹20 lakh in assistance. A nodal officer will be appointed to coordinate with the Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure timely support.

He emphasized that the government is committed to providing every possible assistance to the families during this difficult time. While paying tribute to the deceased, the Chief Minister prayed for their souls’ peace and strength for the bereaved families.

Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma also condemned the attack, calling it an extremely brutal act. He noted that the terrorists allegedly engaged the two workers in conversation for about ten minutes before suddenly opening fire.

Sharma linked the attackers to extremist elements, which the government is determined to eliminate. He stressed that those responsible will be tracked down and dealt with decisively.
