Rishikesh, August 1: The President of the Uttarakhand Women’s Commission, Kusum Kandwal, has expressed her sorrow over the case of Shrishti Kandari, a teacher from Dehradun. She described the incident as unfortunate and called for strict action.
In an interview, Kandwal stated, “This is a very tragic case. She was a teacher and took her own life just eight months after her marriage. I am in constant contact with the police. We are also taking cognizance of the matter. No one commits suicide so easily.”
She emphasized that she has instructed the administration to take stringent action. The Chief Minister has mentioned that the case will be investigated by the CB-CID. “It is a serious issue when an educated woman takes her own life,” she added.
Kandwal urged anyone facing harassment to immediately contact the Women’s Commission for assistance. “Ending one’s life is not a solution. Enduring harassment is also a crime, so please reach out to us,” she said.
Kusum Kandwal stated that after the investigation, strict action should be taken against those found guilty. She mentioned that she had spoken with Shrishti Kandari’s mother, who informed her that Shrishti was returning home but took her life before arriving. Kandwal noted that Shrishti had been subjected to harassment, and actions would be taken against family members involved in this abuse.
It is reported that the police have detained Shrishti’s husband and sister-in-law in connection with the case. The SSP stated that evidence is being gathered against the mother-in-law as well, and if any evidence is found, she will also be arrested. Before her death, Shrishti shared a video detailing the harassment she faced from her in-laws, where she appeared to apologize to her mother and sister.
