Tragic Road Accident in Mau Claims Five Lives

Mau, April 25: A devastating road accident occurred late Saturday night in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. The incident took place on the Gorakhpur-Varanasi four-lane highway near Kusumha Basharatpur in the Doharighat police jurisdiction.

A speeding Scorpio lost control, first crashing into a divider before colliding head-on with a trailer in the opposite lane. Jitendra Singh, the area officer from Ghosi, reported that the police received information about the accident late at night and promptly dispatched a team to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that one vehicle had collided with the divider and veered into oncoming traffic, leading to a direct impact with another vehicle.

Emergency responders, aided by local residents, initiated rescue operations. The process of extracting the victims was prolonged due to the severity of the crash. After approximately two and a half hours of intense effort, all five individuals were retrieved, but unfortunately, they had already succumbed to their injuries.

Reports indicate that the victims, residents of Gorakhpur, were returning home from their daughter’s wedding in Ranchi, Jharkhand. As their vehicle approached Kusumha Basharatpur around 2:30 to 3:00 AM, the driver reportedly dozed off, causing the Scorpio to veer off course. It first struck the divider and then collided violently with an oncoming trailer.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle was severely damaged, trapping all occupants inside. Upon receiving the news, the Doharighat police arrived promptly, and rescue efforts commenced with the assistance of locals. The bodies have been sent to the district hospital for post-mortem examinations. The entire area and the victims’ village are in mourning following the tragedy. The deceased have been identified, and their families have been notified. All bodies have been dispatched for post-mortem, and legal proceedings are underway. The wrecked vehicles have been cleared to restore traffic flow.
