Tragic Road Accident in Hooghly District Claims Three Lives

Kolkata, March 17: A tragic road accident in Hooghly district, West Bengal, resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left one person seriously injured. The incident occurred on Monday when a car collided with trees along the roadside.

According to police reports, the accident took place on Tarakeshwar Road in Sonada, Polba. A car traveling from Daspur to Chinsurah first struck a stray dog crossing the road and then crashed into a tree. The impact was so severe that the vehicle hit another tree before overturning. Three passengers in the car died at the scene, while the driver sustained serious injuries.

Local residents identified two of the deceased as dancers, Yogita Rana and Jyoti Biswas, both aged 21. Yogita was from Haryana, while Jyoti hailed from Ranaghat in Nadia district, West Bengal.

The car was driven by Syed Sagir Hussain, a resident of Dadpur in West Midnapore district. Another passenger, Sheikh Hasib Ahmed, 30, also from Dadpur, was in the vehicle.

Police stated that both women worked at Loknath Pub in Dadpur. The group was returning to Chinsurah after dining at a roadside eatery in the Gurap area of Hooghly district on Sunday night. As they approached Ali Nagar in Polba, a stray dog suddenly crossed the road. The car hit the dog, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a tree, followed by another tree before overturning.

A patrol team from Polba police station arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and rescued the four individuals trapped in the vehicle. They were transported to Chinsurah Imam Bada District Hospital, where doctors pronounced three of them dead.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Priyabrata Bakshi from Hooghly Rural Police reported that the injured driver is currently receiving treatment and remains in critical condition. Bakshi confirmed that police responded promptly to the incident and ensured that all four individuals were taken to the hospital; however, three succumbed to their injuries.
