Tragic Lightning Strikes in Chatra, Jharkhand: Three Women Killed

Mumbai, March 20: In a devastating incident in Chatra district of Jharkhand, three women lost their lives due to lightning strikes during unseasonal rainfall on Friday. The calamity struck in two separate events, claiming the lives of two sisters and another woman who was gathering mahua.

The first tragedy unfolded in the village of Jehra, located in the Meral Panchayat. Reports indicate that Sanjay Bhuiyan’s two wives, Poonam Devi and Kalyani Devi, who were also sisters, were engaged in daily chores in their courtyard when a sudden thunderstorm hit. The lightning struck, resulting in the immediate deaths of both women. The loss has left Sanjay Bhuiyan devastated, as he grapples with the double tragedy. Villagers are in shock over this heartbreaking incident.

The second incident occurred in Singhani village, where a woman named Shama Parveen was killed by a lightning strike while she was gathering mahua near her home in Bandarchumma Pahi. Additionally, a 50-year-old woman named Jaibun Nisha and a 10-year-old girl suffered severe burns in the incident. This tragedy has overshadowed the family’s preparations for the upcoming Eid festival, turning their joy into mourning. The injured have been rushed to a local hospital, where their condition remains critical.

Upon receiving news of the incidents, Udhal Ram, the local block officer, along with a police team, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The administration has taken possession of the bodies and initiated the necessary paperwork. Meanwhile, grieving villagers have urged the district administration to provide immediate compensation to the affected families. Officials have assured that financial assistance will be made available to the victims’ families as soon as possible under disaster relief provisions.
