Ballia, April 26: A tragic incident unfolded in the village of Bachhaipur, located in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, where a man fatally attacked his wife and mother-in-law with a knife. The assailant also severely injured his father-in-law, who is currently receiving treatment in Varanasi.
Amit Gupta, a resident of the Sihanchwar village in the Gadhwar police area, had entered into a love marriage with Preeti from Bachhaipur in 2022. Initially, the couple faced some issues, but family members intervened and reconciled them. However, this peace was short-lived. After nearly four years of marriage, Amit returned to his in-laws’ home.
Family members allege that Amit had recently taken his wife away under the pretense of a visit, but instead began to abuse her elsewhere. Concerned for his daughter’s safety, her father, Antu Gupta, brought her back to her parental home. Preeti had been living there for the past ten days.
According to Preeti’s sister, Kirti, “Amit removed his sandals outside the house and directly entered Preeti’s room. He was trying to take the child away. When Preeti screamed, he began to stab her with a knife.”
Upon hearing her daughter’s screams, their mother, Sushila Devi, rushed to help, only to be attacked by Amit as well. When Antu Gupta entered the room in response to the commotion, he too was brutally assaulted. Tragically, both Preeti and Sushila Devi died at the scene, while Antu Gupta sustained serious injuries. Kirti managed to escape to save her life.
The local community is now gripped by fear following this horrific event. Police Superintendent Omveer Singh confirmed that the bodies of the two women have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the injured man is receiving treatment in Varanasi.
SP Ballia, Omveer Singh, stated that three police teams have been deployed to apprehend the accused, Amit Gupta. Authorities are conducting continuous raids on potential hideouts, and a swift arrest is expected to ensure strict legal action.
