Tragic Incident in Bihar: Woman and Four Children Drown in Pond

Patna, August 7: A tragic event has unfolded in the East Champaran district of Bihar, where a woman and her four children drowned in a pond in the Govindganj police station area of the Areraj sub-division. Four bodies have been recovered, while the search for the fifth is ongoing.

This incident has caused panic in the locality, prompting a large number of villagers to gather at the scene.

Police and administrative officials arrived promptly and initiated an investigation. With the help of locals, four bodies, including that of the woman, were retrieved from the pond, while the search for the fifth victim continued.

According to local reports, the deceased include the woman, her two sons, and two daughters. However, police stated that the identification of all victims and confirmation of the total number of deceased would occur only after the rescue operation concludes and an official inquiry is conducted.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sushila Devi, the wife of Dharmendra Mahto, and a resident of Ward No. 6 in the Babhanouli Panchayat. This incident has shattered the family and cast a pall of grief over the entire village. The circumstances surrounding the drowning remain unclear.

Some villagers suspect that the incident may be linked to a family dispute, while others believe that the woman and her children accidentally fell into the pond while she was gathering fodder for livestock.

Police have stated that all possible angles are being investigated, and no conclusions have been reached yet. Following the incident, officials from the Areraj block and the Govindganj police station arrived at the site. The recovered bodies have been taken for post-mortem, and legal procedures are underway. The search for the missing victim continues with the assistance of divers and local residents.
