Tragic Incident During Ganga Bathing in Uttar Pradesh: Search for Missing Devotees Underway

Lucknow, August 3: A sacred day turned tragic for a family during Ganga bathing in the holy month of Sawan. Three devotees from the Arwal police station area in Hardoi were swept away by the river’s strong currents at the Kusumkhor Ganga ghat.
Thanks to the bravery of local villagers, one young man was rescued, while two others remain missing. Upon receiving the news, police, administration, and fire department teams rushed to the scene and initiated a search operation with the help of divers.
According to reports, Narad, Rishi, and Shivam, residents of Chausar village in the Arwal area, had visited the famous Gauri Shankar temple in Kannauj to offer Ganga water. After their prayers, they went for a bath at the Kusumkhor Ganga ghat. Unfortunately, they lost their balance in the strong currents and began to drown.
Villagers acted quickly, successfully pulling Shivam to safety, but Narad and Rishi were swept away. Local authorities, including Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ankit Tiwari and Police Station Chief Anil Kumar Singh, arrived promptly to assist in the rescue efforts.
The search for the two missing devotees continues with local divers, police, and SDRF teams working tirelessly. The incident has drawn a large crowd to the ghat, with family members in distress. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution while bathing in areas with strong river currents and to adhere to safety guidelines.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Western), Martand Prakash Singh, stated that around 7:30 AM on Monday, the three boys from Chausar were bathing when they were caught in the main current of the river. While efforts were made to rescue them, only Shivam was successfully saved.
He emphasized that ongoing search efforts are being conducted by local divers, police, and SDRF teams. Residents have been advised to bathe only at designated spots marked by the police, given the high water levels in the river.
