New Delhi, June 5: Lovkesh Bajaj, the primary suspect arrested in the Malviya Nagar hotel fire incident, has a serious criminal record. According to Delhi police sources, he was previously arrested last year for involvement in a fake passport and document case.
Reports indicate that Bajaj was accused of supplying fraudulent Indian documents and passports to Bangladeshi nationals. A case was registered against him in January 2025, leading to his arrest after evidence of his involvement emerged during the investigation. He spent approximately 15 days in Tihar Jail before being released on bail. The hearing for the fake passport case is still pending in court.
Currently, Lovkesh Bajaj has been arrested in connection with the Malviya Nagar hotel fire case. The police are also searching for the hotel accountant, Jai Mishra, and manager, Rakesh, who are both wanted in relation to this incident.
Jai Mishra, a resident of the Chhatarpur area in Delhi, has been on the run since the hotel fire. Police are conducting raids in an effort to locate him. Additionally, the roles of manager Rakesh and other hotel staff members are under investigation, with efforts underway to gather detailed information about their involvement.
The police are conducting parallel investigations into both cases, and new revelations are expected during the questioning of Lovkesh Bajaj.
It is noteworthy that Bajaj was apprehended following a large-scale search operation by Delhi police, which included raids at multiple locations across the national capital.
On Thursday, Lovkesh Bajaj was presented in a Delhi court, where he was remanded to four days of police custody.
The devastating fire incident in Malviya Nagar resulted in the loss of 21 lives. Authorities previously reported that 47 individuals were safely evacuated from the building, with 26 currently receiving medical treatment.
Several injured individuals, including police officers who were part of the first rescue team to enter the burning building, are being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.
