Bengaluru, March 28: A tragic incident has unfolded in Aminagad village, located in the Maski taluka of Karnataka’s Raichur district, where a 15-year-old girl named Sindhu lost her life due to the side effects of an injection administered by a fake doctor.
According to police reports, Sindhu had been unwell for several days. Her grandmother took her to a man named Uttam Kumar, who falsely claimed to be a doctor and treated people in Aminagad and nearby villages. Without conducting any proper examination, he administered an injection to Sindhu. Shortly after, she experienced severe side effects, leading to a rapid deterioration in her condition.
Family members rushed her to the nearest hospital, but unfortunately, the doctors declared her dead upon arrival. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the village. Sindhu’s parents, who were in Bengaluru seeking work, had left her in the care of her grandmother. Upon learning of her illness, the grandmother informed the parents, but by the time they returned, their daughter had already passed away. The family is in deep shock.
Sindhu’s father has lodged a complaint at the Kavita police station. Authorities have registered a case and initiated a search for the fake doctor, Uttam Kumar. Following his arrest, further details about his background and the treatments he provided in other villages are expected to emerge. Reports indicate that Uttam Kumar hails from Bengal and had been frequently visiting Aminagad and surrounding areas, posing as a doctor to treat common ailments. Villagers approached him without any suspicion.
Police have stated that he was practicing without any medical degree or license, which is a punishable offense under the law. This incident highlights the growing issue of fake doctors in rural areas, where a lack of qualified medical professionals forces people to rely on such impostors, posing significant risks to health and safety.
The Raichur district administration has directed an expedited investigation into the matter. A police team is actively pursuing the suspect. There are rising demands from the community for justice for the family and stringent action against fake doctors.
