
Lucknow, July 1: A devastating road accident occurred on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh, early Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including two young girls. Several passengers sustained injuries and were promptly transported to a hospital. Preliminary investigations suggest that the bus driver may have dozed off, leading to the tragic incident.
Reports indicate that the accident took place near kilometer marker 230.800 in the Bangarmau police jurisdiction. A speeding bus was en route from Haryana to Bihar when it suddenly lost control, collided with a car, and flipped over a few meters away. The impact left the car completely wrecked.
At the time of the accident, there were nine people in the car. Five of them died at the scene, while three others suffered serious injuries. The injured were initially taken to the Bangarmau Community Health Center, where they received first aid before being referred to the Trauma Center in Lucknow due to their critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as Dhunmun (60 years), driver Vinod (45 years), Anju (40 years), Amrita (13 years), and Divya (6 years).
The bus rollover also injured over 17 passengers onboard, most of whom sustained minor injuries. All the injured were treated at a local hospital, and many were discharged after receiving initial care.
Upon receiving news of the accident, police, administration, and rescue teams rushed to the scene. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police inspected the site and visited the hospital to check on the injured and assess the treatment arrangements.
According to the police spokesperson, initial investigations indicate that the accident was caused by the bus driver’s drowsiness. Authorities have cleared the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow and sent the deceased’s bodies for post-mortem examinations.
Witnesses reported that the bus was traveling at a high speed and that the driver lost control after the collision. The police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
