Mau, June 30: The Energy Minister of Uttar Pradesh, A.K. Sharma, announced that strict directives have been issued across the state regarding electrical safety and adherence to building regulations. This decision follows the tragic fire incident in Lucknow, which claimed the lives of 15 individuals and left seven others injured. The guidelines emphasize preventive measures to avert such incidents in the future.
In an interview with a news agency, Sharma referenced the unfortunate event at a coaching center building in Lucknow. He visited the site and the hospital immediately after the incident to assess the situation.
According to the Energy Minister, the incident has provided valuable lessons. In response, new guidelines have been formulated and will soon be implemented. He noted that various factors contribute to such incidents, including sparking in electrical lines or maintenance issues in plants. However, he clarified that the Lucknow fire was not caused by these factors.
Sharma stressed that the government has issued these guidelines considering the overall safety of the state. He also mentioned that several regulations have been established from an urban development perspective, as similar incidents can occur in urban areas, with the Lucknow tragedy highlighting the need for vigilance.
He emphasized the importance of thorough scrutiny when approving building plans. “We must be more cautious; normalizing the situation without vigilance is not an option,” he stated. While granting building permissions falls under the housing department, any role from the urban development sector must be taken seriously, especially concerning high-rise buildings.
