New Delhi, June 2: A tragic accident in Devprayag, Uttarakhand, has resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals, while one person is in critical condition and has been transported to a hospital. Emergency teams are currently engaged in rescue operations.
Reports indicate that a vehicle plunged approximately 200 meters into a gorge near the Ganga Hotel Darshan area in Devprayag. Upon receiving news of the incident, police, revenue department officials, and SDRF teams were dispatched to the scene. The vehicle involved in the accident bore the registration number UK 08 TA 5433.
The vehicle was en route to Haridwar, carrying around eight passengers, including the driver. All passengers are reported to be residents of Rajasthan. One injured individual was taken to Srinagar via a departmental ambulance, while the bodies of the three deceased were retrieved using rafting techniques and brought to the road.
Local police and area officials are on-site. The depth of the gorge has made the rescue operation particularly challenging. Authorities have stated that detailed information regarding the accident will be available once the rescue efforts are concluded.
Earlier, a bus accident in Haridwar resulted in the death of a woman. This incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Nagar Kotwali police station in the Saptarishi area, where a bus overturned after losing control. Reports suggest that a group of pilgrims from Rajasthan was traveling in a double-decker bus to Haridwar. After taking a holy dip in the Ganga, they were preparing to return home when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the bus to flip over.
Approximately 45 passengers were on board at the time of the accident, leading to chaos as cries for help emerged from within the overturned vehicle. Police and emergency teams arrived promptly at the scene, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Pushpakunwar, the wife of Bhawarsingh from Nagaur district in Rajasthan.
