Miami, March 30: American Taylor Townsend and Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova have secured the Miami Open women’s doubles title. The duo triumphed in the final against Italy’s Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, winning 7-6 (0), 6-1. With this victory, Townsend and Siniakova become the first pair since 2019 to complete the ‘Sunshine Double.’
In 2019, this remarkable achievement was accomplished by the team of Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka. Townsend and Siniakova are now the sixth women’s pair to achieve the Sunshine Double. Previous pairs to reach this milestone include Jana Novotna and Helena Sukova (1990), Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs (2002), Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur (2006, 2007), and Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza (2015). Mertens and Sabalenka also achieved this feat in 2019.
Notably, Natasha Zvereva (1997), Hingis (1999), and Bethanie Mattek-Sands (2016) have won both tournaments in the same year with different partners. Townsend and Siniakova have now won their fifth title together, which includes two Grand Slam victories at Wimbledon 2024 and the Australian Open 2025. Following this win, they will rise to number 3 in the doubles race, while Errani and Paolini may move from number 8 to number 6.
