TMC MPs Raise Concerns Over Election Irregularities, Accuse Commission of BJP Collusion

New Delhi, April 1: In the lead-up to the West Bengal assembly elections, MPs from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) have accused the Election Commission of manipulation. They claim that the Commission is collaborating with the BJP to add external individuals to the voter rolls, potentially undermining the integrity of the voting process.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra has questioned the alleged attempts by BJP workers to include new voters in the electoral rolls. She asserted that several BJP cadres were recently caught with 30,000 to 40,000 Form-6 applications, raising concerns about their activities before the elections.

Moitra stated, “Any new voter can register themselves using Form-6. If many young individuals are becoming new voters at a single booth, the booth-level agents can only submit a maximum of 50 Form-6 applications. Yet, thousands of Form-6 are being submitted. In Maharashtra, 4 million new voters were added in just five months.”

Responding to a letter from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to the Election Commission, Moitra indicated that the deployment of IPS officers in top positions within the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) is being used for electoral purposes.

She remarked, “Their head should ideally come from their own cadre. The central government intends to use the CAPF through IPS officers, which is why they are replacing our officials with their own.”

On the same issue, TMC MP Sougata Roy noted that there were attempts to submit 60,000 Form-6 applications, which the party opposed. Roy stated, “Our leader Abhishek Banerjee protested against this, and we have also staged demonstrations in front of the office. We will continue to resist this issue.”

TMC leader Yusuf Pathan from West Bengal emphasized that the people appreciate Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership. He stated, “Didi has done commendable work for women, youth, and the development of the state. She has always fought for the people here and will not allow any injustice to occur in the future.”
