Rome, March 30: In a shocking incident, skilled thieves made off with three priceless paintings in just three minutes. This daring theft occurred at the Magnani Rocca Foundation Museum in Parma, Italy. The total value of the stolen artworks is estimated to be around $10 million, or approximately 90–95 crore rupees.
According to media outlet ‘The Local Italy’, the stolen paintings include Renoir’s ‘Fish’, Cézanne’s ‘Still Life with Cherries’, and Matisse’s ‘Odalisque on the Terrace’. Local reports indicate that the incident took place between March 22 and 23, but police did not file a report until Sunday.
The foundation stated that the theft was executed in a highly organized manner, taking less than three minutes to complete. It is believed that the thieves intended to steal more masterpieces, but the activation of the protection system triggered an alarm, prompting their hasty escape.
Established in 1977, the foundation houses a collection by art historian Luigi Magnani, featuring works by renowned artists such as Dürer, Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, and Monet. Initial police investigations suggest that the thieves fled through a garden path adjacent to the museum.
This incident marks the second major art theft in recent times. On October 19, 2025, masked robbers executed a heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris, stealing 8-9 priceless royal jewels from the 19th century, valued at over $102 million (approximately 800 crore rupees). Investigations revealed that the thieves entered through a window using a ladder, smashed displays, and escaped on motorcycles. While some suspects were later apprehended, the stolen items have never been recovered.
