Washington, March 30: President Donald Trump has once again issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening to devastate its energy infrastructure. He stated that if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened immediately and a deal is not reached, Iran’s energy facilities will face destruction.
In a post on the social media platform Truth, Trump reiterated his stance. He initially praised the progress in negotiations but then declared that power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island would be entirely obliterated. He also mentioned that desalination plants could be targeted if necessary.
Referring to the ongoing negotiations in Iran, he claimed, “There has been significant progress in talks, but if a deal is not reached soon, which it might, and if the Strait of Hormuz is not ‘open for business’ immediately, we will eliminate our beloved ‘stay’ in Iran by destroying all their electric generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island (and perhaps all desalination plants!), which we have deliberately not touched yet.”
Trump emphasized that this action would be taken as retribution for the deaths of American soldiers and others for which he holds Iran accountable.
Earlier on the same day, Trump’s interview with the Financial Times garnered attention. In it, he acknowledged his interest in Iranian oil, stating, “To be honest, my favorite thing is taking Iran’s oil.” He compared this situation to Venezuela, where Washington reportedly aims to maintain control over the oil industry following the ousting of President Nicolás Maduro in January.
According to the Financial Times, seizing Iranian oil would mean taking control of Kharg Island, which accounts for over 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports.
