Delhi Education Minister Responds to AAPs Allegations on Book Purchases

Delhis Education Minister Ashish Sood defends book purchase practices amid AAPs accusations of corruption, emphasizing transparency and quality.

New Delhi, October 24 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi’s Education and Sports Minister Ashish Sood has sharply criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over allegations regarding book purchases. During a recent interview, Sood stated, “This seems to be a conflict between the old and new factions. The emergence of new players has made it difficult for the established ones to adapt, leading to unfounded claims of a 40% scam.”

Sood clarified that his department purchased books at ₹28.61 each, significantly lower than the ₹65 price set by the NCERT. He emphasized that these books were acquired at half the price compared to previous administrations. Documentation from that period reveals that the then-education secretary had raised concerns about the quality of books being procured under the previous leadership.

He asserted, “We have presented all the facts clearly. We have provided you with measuring tapes; you can verify the quality for yourself.”

The minister highlighted the positive developments within the education department, noting advancements in digital learning, increased opportunities for students, and improved academic results. “The education department is gradually getting back on track. This challenges their narrative! They used to claim they were the best, but now, two years later, people can see for themselves. If they continue with baseless accusations, they will have to answer for it,” he added.

Sood also addressed the current political climate, stating, “Unfounded allegations are being made to hinder the good work of the education department. In today’s political environment, characterized by ‘hoot and shoot’ tactics, we are witnessing similar politics in Delhi. While some claim that 130 million votes have been deleted, they fail to mention that 30 million voters have either passed away or relocated.”

He further clarified the recent accusations surrounding a specific NCERT book, asserting that claims about discrepancies in specifications were unfounded. “A measuring tape has been provided to counter the falsehoods spread by unemployed leaders seeking to maintain their political relevance and business interests,” Sood said. He concluded by stating that both versions of the books are available for inspection, urging transparency in the matter.
