Three Arrested in Lucknow After Police Shootout Involving Chain Snatching and Harassment

Lucknow, May 31: Two separate encounters between police and criminals occurred in the Krishna Nagar and Vikas Nagar areas of Lucknow. Three suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs and were subsequently arrested. Police recovered illegal firearms, stolen goods, and the vehicles used in the crimes.

The first encounter took place in the Krishna Nagar area, where police apprehended two notorious chain snatchers from Delhi in an injured state. According to police, a checking operation was underway near the Asaram Bapu Ashram on Mansanagar Road around 1 AM on Saturday. During this operation, two young men on a motorcycle attempted to flee upon seeing the police and opened fire.

When police pursued them, their motorcycle lost control and crashed a short distance away. The suspects fired at the police again, prompting a return of fire that injured both men in their legs. One suspect was shot in the right leg and the other in the left. After being injured, they were arrested and taken to the hospital.

The arrested individuals were identified as 23-year-old Rohan alias Guddu and 21-year-old Sahil, both residents of Delhi. During interrogation, they confessed to being involved in several thefts and chain-snatching incidents in the Krishna Nagar area. Police seized stolen jewelry, cash, illegal firearms, and the motorcycle used in the crimes.

According to police, the duo snatched a bag from Ram Babu Chaurasia, a resident of Kundan Vihar, on May 28. They also committed a chain-snatching incident involving a woman named Varsha Rani a few days prior. To investigate these incidents, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the southern region formed four special teams.

Investigations revealed that Rohan has over 20 criminal cases registered against him in various districts, including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, and Muzaffarnagar, for theft, robbery, and violations of the Arms Act. Sahil has multiple cases registered against him for theft and Arms Act violations in Unnao and Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The second encounter occurred in the Vikas Nagar area, where police arrested Sunny Yadav, accused of harassing a young woman. A recent harassment case had been filed against Sunny, a resident of Mahavir Puri in the KKV Colony of the Hussainganj police area. He was shot in the leg during the police operation. Authorities are continuing their investigation and searching for other suspects involved.
