The Journey of Guddi Maruti: From Child Star to Bollywood Icon

Mumbai, April 3: Films are not just about the lead actors; supporting characters play a crucial role too. Without villains, complex characters, or comedians, the story and entertainment fall flat. One such name is Guddi Maruti. With her unique style and charming personality, she has brought laughter to audiences. Rather than viewing her weight as a disadvantage, she embraced it as her strength, carving a niche in comedy across hundreds of films.

Born on April 4, 1961, in Mumbai, Guddi has always captivated audiences with her delightful presence. She never allowed her weight to be a weakness. Instead, she transformed it into her strength, leaving a lasting impression even in supporting roles, making people smile to this day.

Few know that Guddi Maruti’s real name is Tahira Parab. Her father, Maruti Rao Parab, was an actor and director himself. Growing up in a film family, Guddi developed a deep connection with the world of cinema from an early age. At just 10 years old, she made her acting debut as a child artist in the film “Jaan Hazir Hai.” Following her father’s untimely death, the responsibility of her family fell on young Guddi’s shoulders. During this challenging time, she did not lose hope and turned to acting for support.

However, the path to acting was not easy for her. At that time, Bollywood heroines were expected to have fit and slender figures. Guddi’s weight became a significant barrier to landing roles. Yet, she refused to give up. By using her physical appearance as a comedic tool, she began taking on supporting roles. Gradually, her humorous performances became so popular that she earned the nickname “Tun Tun.”

Renowned filmmaker Manmohan Desai gave her the name “Guddi Maruti,” which made her a household name in Bollywood. Over her career, Guddi has appeared in more than 100 films. She entertained audiences with her comedy in memorable movies like “Dulhe Raja,” “Biwi No. 1,” “Shola Aur Shabnam,” and “Chor Machaye Shor.” Even while sharing the screen with prominent actors, she maintained her unique identity. Her impeccable comic timing and natural style had audiences in stitches.

After the film “Sorry Meri Lorry” in 1995, Guddi Maruti took a break from the film industry. She made a comeback nearly nine years later in 2015 with the film “Hum Sab Ullu Hain,” once again bringing joy to viewers. She later ventured into television, appearing in serials like “Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuein,” “Doli Armaanon Ki,” and “Ye Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai.” On TV, she also took on serious roles, but audiences preferred to see her in comedic settings. After entering television, Guddi also managed to shed a significant amount of weight.

In her personal life, Guddi Maruti is married to businessman Ashok, and they reside in the Bandra area of Mumbai.
