Maharajganj, August 18: A Thai woman has been arrested at the Sonouli border on charges of possessing fake Indian identification documents. The immigration department conducted the arrest during a routine check at the India-Nepal border. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and initiated further action.
According to reports, officials were inspecting travelers entering India at the Sonouli immigration office when a foreign woman arriving from Nepal presented her Thai passport and visa. Authorities grew suspicious due to her manner of speaking and language. Upon questioning, she was identified as Chon Chutichirafat, a resident of Thailand.
During the investigation, digital copies of alleged fake Indian documents were found on the woman’s mobile phone. These included an Aadhaar card, a voter ID number ZMY 4348066, and a PAN card number DAFPD459D, all prepared under the name ‘Karuna Rupani Devi Dasi’, wife of Mitralal Khanal, a resident of Vaishnav Nagar, Ramanreti, Vrindavan, Mathura. The woman also possessed her original Thai passport, number AC2825032.
Further inquiries revealed that the woman married a Nepalese citizen, Mitralal Khanal, in Thailand in 2005. She moved to India with her husband in 2006 and began living in a rented house in Mathura. In 2011, the couple purchased land and built a house in Mathura. Allegations suggest that after this, the woman changed her identity and allegedly arranged for the creation of fake Indian documents in her name.
The woman has two children, Nandini (20) and Neeraj (18), who are studying in Mathura. She had traveled to Nepal on May 19, 2026, and was apprehended during immigration checks at the Sonouli border on August 16.
Immigration officials handed her over to the Sonouli police after questioning. The police are investigating the charges of creating fake identities and using fraudulent documents. Legal proceedings are ongoing. Sonouli police chief Mahendra Kumar Mishra stated that the Thai woman is currently being interrogated, and further actions will be taken based on the investigation.
