Mumbai, February 28: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is set to assess the recommendations provided by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding upcoming spectrum auctions. TRAI recently released a report outlining its suggestions for the next spectrum sale, emphasizing the importance of this limited resource for telecommunications companies.
TRAI has proposed several measures, including reducing entry barriers for the industry.
“The TRAI has issued its recommendations. The DoT will review these, and based on that evaluation, decisions regarding the next spectrum auction will be made,” stated Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Union Telecom Minister of India.
On Tuesday, TRAI indicated that airwaves across various frequency bands should be accessible to telecom operators. These bands include 600 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300 MHz, and 26 GHz. The regulatory body has suggested that the entire 11,790 MHz spectrum, valued at approximately Rs 2.1 lakh crore, should be made available for telecom companies.
Once the DoT completes its evaluation of TRAI’s recommendations, a timeline for the next round of spectrum auctions will be established.
