Telangana Government Submits Drought Report to Central Authorities

Telanganas Deputy Chief Minister reports on drought conditions and outlines government strategies to manage the crisis.

Hyderabad, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, announced on Wednesday that the state has submitted a report on the drought situation to the central government. He mentioned that if necessary, the state will dispatch a multi-party delegation to Delhi to seek assistance from central ministers.

The Deputy Chief Minister addressed a multi-party meeting convened to discuss the impact of El Niño and the resultant rainfall deficiency. He emphasized that the state government is taking all necessary precautions to address the challenges posed by the current drought-like conditions.

The meeting included members of the sub-committee and state ministers, such as N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Danasari Sitakka, and V. Sridhar. Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju and nodal officer Ramakrishna Rao were also present.

Representatives from various political parties participated, offering suggestions to assist farmers and address issues related to drinking water and irrigation. Notable attendees included Congress’s Anjan Kumar Yadav, Farmers Commission Chairperson Kodanda Reddy, BRS representatives Vinod Kumar, L. Ramana, and Singireddy Niranjan Reddy, BJP’s leader of the legislative party Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, and AIMIM’s president and MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

Vikramarka stated that the government will formulate a coordinated action plan, incorporating suggestions from all political parties to effectively tackle the challenges posed by El Niño. He urged political leaders to set aside criticism and collaborate for the greater public good during this potential crisis.

The Deputy Chief Minister reminded attendees that discussions regarding El Niño’s impact had already taken place in the Assembly. The government has organized various meetings and seminars, consulting scientists and experts. A committee has also been established to study the issue, and steps are being taken to enhance public awareness.

He noted that the government is assessing potential scenarios that may arise in the coming months and preparing in advance to address these challenges. Vikramarka explained that if the rainfall deficiency were confined to Telangana, there might be the possibility of water inflow from neighboring states. However, the rainfall shortage in those states and other parts of the country remains a concern.

With diminishing water availability from alternative sources, efficient water resource management has become increasingly crucial. The government plans to utilize available resources effectively, considering the storage levels in reservoirs. Measures are being coordinated across departments to forecast drought conditions and mitigate their impact.

Vikramarka assured that the government will make decisions based on scientific and expert advice, and will also evaluate suggestions from leaders of all parties to implement appropriate measures.
