Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022: BJP and SP Battle for Siddharthnagars Five Assembly Seats

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections, Siddharthnagar saw a fierce contest between BJP and SP, with SP winning two out of five seats.

Siddharthnagar, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections showcased a competitive landscape in Siddharthnagar district, where five assembly seats were contested. Out of these, candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies secured victories in three constituencies, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) claimed two.

In the Bansi assembly seat, BJP leader Jay Pratap Singh’s reputation was on the line. He faced off against SP’s Naveen, BSP’s Radheshyam, and Congress’s Kiran Shukla. Singh managed to maintain his political influence by winning with 84,596 votes, while Naveen garnered 64,256 votes. Radheshyam came in third with 22,071 votes.

This victory marked Singh’s eighth win in his political career, which began in 1989 when he first won as an independent candidate. Despite facing a setback in his journey, his win in Bansi was crucial for the BJP’s success in the district.

The Dumariyaganj seat witnessed a thrilling contest. SP’s Syeda Khatoon narrowly defeated BJP’s Raghvendra Pratap Singh by just 771 votes. Khatoon received 85,098 votes, while Singh secured 84,327. BSP’s Ashok Kumar Tiwari placed third with 20,416 votes. The close margin sparked discussions across the district, giving SP a significant political advantage.

In the Itwa assembly seat, SP’s veteran leader and former assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey faced BJP’s Satish Chandra Dwivedi. Pandey’s victory signaled SP’s resurgence, as he returned to the seat he had held from 2002 to 2012 before losing it in 2017. His win in 2022 reinforced SP’s standing in Siddharthnagar.

The Kapilvastu seat was contested by BJP’s Shyamdhani Rahi and SP’s Vijay Kumar, along with Congress’s Devendra Kumar Guddu and BSP’s Kanhaiya Prasad. Rahi emerged victorious, continuing BJP’s stronghold in this historically significant area known as the birthplace of Lord Buddha. In 2022, Rahi received 122,940 votes, while Vijay Kumar secured 92,001.

Finally, the Shohratgarh assembly seat was won by Vinay Verma of Apna Dal (Sonelal), who represented the BJP-led alliance. The seat has seen various party influences over the years, with Apna Dal’s Amar Singh Chaudhary winning in 2017. Verma’s victory in 2022 solidified the position of BJP and its allies in the district.

The election results in Siddharthnagar have reshaped the political landscape, highlighting the intense rivalry between the BJP and SP.
