Karwa Chauth Celebrations: Auspicious Timing and Rituals Explained by Kalka Ji Temples Head Priest

Karwa Chauth is celebrated today, with rituals and auspicious timings shared by Kalka Ji Temples head priest for married women.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The festival of Karwa Chauth is being celebrated across India today, with married women observing a strict fast for the longevity and well-being of their husbands. At the renowned Kalka Ji Temple in New Delhi, Head Priest Mahant Surendranath Avadhut provided insights into the auspicious timings, rituals, and significance of this special occasion.

Mahant Surendranath Avadhut explained that the Karwa Chauth fast is observed on the fourth day of the waning moon in the month of Kartik. This year, the auspicious day falls on October 30, which is a Thursday. On this day, married women undertake a nirjala (waterless) fast, praying for their husbands’ long life and a happy marriage.

He stated, “From sunrise to moonrise, married women fast and pray for the longevity of their husbands. Worshipping the entire family of Lord Shiva holds special significance on this day.”

Regarding the rituals, Mahant Avadhut detailed that after worshipping Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Kartikeya, and Lord Ganesha, women listen to the Karwa Chauth story. Following this, they participate in the tradition of exchanging karwas, known as bayna.

He also shared the auspicious timing for this year’s rituals, noting, “The ideal time for the puja is between 5:38 PM and 6:56 PM. Performing the rituals during this window will yield the best results.”

The priest emphasized that the ceremony performed during moonrise is the most crucial part of the fast. Women place a lamp inside a sieve, first viewing the moon through it, followed by glimpsing their husbands’ faces. After this, they break their fast by drinking water from their husbands’ hands.

He added, “This practice enhances love and affection between husband and wife. It is hoped that the husband remains healthy, long-lived, and that their married life is filled with happiness. With the blessings of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, all women who observe this fast will have their wishes fulfilled.”
