Telangana Ethics Committee to Review Alleged Misconduct of BRS MLA P. Kaushik Reddy

Hyderabad, March 29: The Speaker of the Telangana Assembly has referred the case of alleged misconduct by opposition BRS MLA P. Kaushik Reddy to the Ethics Committee. This decision was made on Sunday following a proposal presented in the assembly regarding Reddy’s purported unethical behavior towards senior leader Kadiyam Srihari.

The proposal was introduced by Minister for Legislative Affairs D. Sridhar Babu and was passed by voice vote under the supervision of Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. Members of the ruling Congress party accused Kaushik Reddy of disrespecting Srihari, condemning his offensive remarks and body language.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also criticized Reddy’s behavior, stating that appropriate action should be taken by the Ethics Committee. Kadiyam Srihari, a former Deputy Chief Minister, is among the ten BRS MLAs who allegedly decided to join the Congress party in 2024. However, the Speaker has dismissed petitions to disqualify the BRS legislators.

Revanth Reddy emphasized that Srihari’s reputation is on par with that of BRS President and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). He remarked that it is inappropriate to insult a senior leader in the assembly.

The Chief Minister alleged that KCR is avoiding the assembly to escape facing the Dalit Speaker. He claimed that BRS members are continuously disrupting the house, showing disrespect to the Speaker.

Revanth Reddy accused KCR of betraying the Dalit community by breaking his promise to appoint the first Dalit Chief Minister of Telangana. He noted that during KCR’s first term, only one Dalit leader, Koppula Eshwar, was included in the cabinet. In his second term, he insulted the entire Dalit community by removing the Deputy Chief Minister position.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Congress government promoted Bhatti Vikramarka as Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, while also appointing other Dalit leaders like Damodar Raja Narasimha, Seethakka, and Vivek Venkataswamy to significant positions.

BRS leader and former minister T. Srinivas Yadav described the decision to send Kaushik Reddy’s case to the Ethics Committee as a distraction tactic by the Congress government. He stated that Reddy was merely inquiring about the party affiliations of Srihari and others.
